1. Who operates Telefone
Telefone is operated by Future Replacement Intelligent Digital Assistant Youth (“Telefone”, “we”, “us” or “our”), India.
- Registered address: [FULL REGISTERED ADDRESS, INDIA]
- Privacy and grievance officer: [PRIVACY / GRIEVANCE OFFICER – TO BE APPOINTED]
- Privacy notices: legal@telefone.live
- Access, correction, erasure and grievance requests: support@telefone.live
2. Scope, notice and consent
This policy explains how we process digital personal data when you create an account or use Telefone calling, messaging, groups, optional contact discovery, translation and location-sharing features. Before account setup, we show a standalone notice describing the personal data and purposes and ask you to make an affirmative choice.
You may withdraw consent at support@telefone.live. Withdrawal will be handled with comparable ease to giving consent. If processing is necessary to provide or secure Telefone, withdrawal may require us to restrict or close the account. Withdrawal does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful.
3. Personal data we process
- Account data: phone number, username, display name, profile photo and account identifiers.
- Device and security data: device identifier, platform, public encryption keys, push token, authorization state, last-active time, IP-derived network information and security events.
- Connections and groups: requests, accepted connections, blocks, group memberships, roles and group profile information.
- Communications: end-to-end encrypted message and attachment ciphertext, delivery state, timestamps and limited routing metadata. Supported content is decrypted on participating devices, not by Telefone.
- Calls: participant identifiers, call type, status, start/end time, duration and technical diagnostics. Telefone does not record call audio or video content.
- Contact discovery, only if enabled: normalized, cryptographically hashed phone-number values used to find people you may know. Raw address-book entries are not intended to be uploaded.
- Location, only when shared: current or live location sent as encrypted message content to a selected conversation. Background location may operate during an active live share with device permission.
- On-device information: messages, media, translation/speech settings, translated-message cache and preferences stored on the device.
- Diagnostics: crash reports, performance events, app/device version, event time and security logs. Diagnostic reports should not include message plaintext.
4. Why we process data
We use personal data to create and secure accounts; verify phone numbers and authorize devices; deliver calls, encrypted messages, attachments, groups and notifications; provide optional contact discovery and location sharing; prevent abuse and security incidents; troubleshoot failures; comply with applicable law; and communicate service, safety, policy and grievance updates.
We do not sell personal data or use message content for advertising.
5. Sharing and service providers
We share only what is reasonably necessary with infrastructure, hosting, push-notification, SMS-verification, crash-reporting, mapping, security and support providers acting for us; with people you choose to communicate with; and with authorities when lawfully required.
Current app integrations include Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Crashlytics and Google Maps. Sentry receives diagnostics only when a production DSN is configured. Twilio is not our selected production SMS provider. The exact production SMS provider must be added before OTP delivery is enabled.
6. Storage and international processing
Our declared production application server, database and file-storage location is India. Device-platform and specialist providers, including Google or a configured crash-reporting provider, may process limited information in other countries using their infrastructure. We will update this policy before materially changing production providers or storage locations.
7. Retention
| Data | Normal period |
|---|---|
| Account and profile data | While active; no automatic inactive-account deletion. Erased after a verified request unless retention is required by law, security needs or an unresolved dispute. |
| Call records and metadata | Up to 6 months. |
| Undelivered encrypted message ciphertext | Up to 15 days. |
| Encrypted attachment ciphertext | Up to 5 days after upload. |
| App-performance telemetry | Normally up to 90 days. |
| Security, access and audit logs | Normally 1 year; longer only where legally required or needed for an active investigation or dispute. |
| Local app data | Until cleared, removed on logout where applicable, removed by uninstall, or removed by the device storage system. |
| Encrypted recovery backups | Not offered in the declared production configuration. A new notice will precede activation. |
8. Security and breach response
Telefone uses end-to-end encryption for supported communications, transport encryption, device-bound authorization, access controls, restricted storage and monitoring. No system is completely secure. Protect your device, OTP and recovery material and report suspected compromise to support@telefone.live.
Where required, we will notify affected users and the Data Protection Board of India of a personal-data breach and provide the information and updates required by applicable law.
9. Your choices and rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request a summary of personal data and processing, information about sharing, correction, completion, updating or erasure, withdraw consent, nominate another person to exercise rights after death or incapacity, and raise a grievance.
Send a request from your registered phone/account context to support@telefone.live. We may verify identity. We aim to resolve grievances within 30 days and always within the applicable legal limit. If unresolved, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India through its available mechanism.
10. Children
Telefone is currently for people aged 18 or older. Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, a child is a person under 18 and processing generally requires verifiable parental consent. Telefone does not yet provide that verification, so a 12+ or 16+ launch setting is not enabled. Before introducing a compliant younger-user experience in any country, we will add age checks, parental authorization and a country-specific notice.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this policy for product, provider or legal changes. For material changes, we will show an in-app notice and request fresh consent where required. The version and effective date appear above.
